Special T Group Events is our official supplier of Swiftsure logo wear. Veteran Swiftsure racers may know that they are the people who every year have a booth beside Swiftsure Centre and at the docks in front of the Empress Hotel.

Sailing Instructions Issued

The Sailing Instructions have been issued for the 2013 Swiftsure International Yacht Race. There are two sets of Sailing Instructions: for the Three Long Courses (Swiftsure Lightship Classic, Cape Flattery, and Juan de Fuca), and for the Swiftsure Inshore Classic. They may be found in the Race Info tab on this homepage.

The countdown is on to the starting gun!

Amendment to Notice of Race #3 – May 3, 2013

The Swiftsure Committee has issued Amendment #3 to the Notice of Race for The Three Long Courses. The amendment specifically applies to the Swiftsure Lightship Classic and the Cape Flattery Unlimited courses.

This amendment responds to a formal request from the Pacific Northwest IRC Owners Association to enable yachts to be scored under their IRC handicap if they so wish. The Race Committee will publish and recognize the IRC calculated results as official records of the 2013 Swiftsure International Yacht Race.

Amendment to Notices of Race #2 – April 13, 2013

The Swiftsure Committee has issued Amendment #2 to the Notices of Race for all Swiftsure Races (The Three Long and the Swiftsure Inshore Classic).

This amendment changes Article 12 COMMUNICATIONS in the Notices of Race to clarify that communication, including electronic communications (e.g.; use of mobile telephones) may be made in order to comply with the notice of race and sailing instructions or for personal messages not related to a boat’s performance in the race.

VIRS for Keelboats

The Swiftsure International Yacht Race is one of the designated Vancouver Island Racing Series (VIRS), and the 2013 results will count towards the 2013 VIRS Trophies.

The races included in VIRS are:

  • Patos Island Race hosted by SNSYC (was held March 23, 24)
  • THRASH Regatta hosted by RVYC (April 20, 21)
  • Thetis Island Race hosted by LYC (May 11, 12)
  • Round Saltspring hosted by SISC (May 18, 19)
  • Swiftsure hosted by RVYC (May 25 – 27)
  • Race Around the Rocks hosted by SCYC (June 1, 2)
  • CSFA Regatta hosted by CSFA Esquimalt, (June 8,9)
  • Thermopylae Regatta hosted by RVYC (October 5,6)
  • SNS Regatta hosted by SNSYC (September 14, 15)
  • Maple Bay Regatta hosted by MBYC (August 31, September 1)
  • Cow Bay Regatta hosted by CBSA (August 3,4)
  • SIN Regatta hosted by NYC (June 29, 30)

Canoe Cove Marine Consortium – Line Honours Sponsor

Swiftsure is very excited to announce six businesses have come together as a consortium, to sponsor Swiftsure International Yacht Race for 2013.  This is historic – our first consortium!  They are also Swiftsure’s largest sponsor so far – THANK YOU.

Amendment to Notice of Race #1 – March 27, 2013

Today the Swiftsure Committee issued Amendment #1 to the Notice of Race for all Swiftsure Races (The Three Long Courses and the Swiftsure Inshore Classic).

This amendment changes the scheduled start of the race to be one hour earlier. The starting sequence for the first race will be at 0850 with the start at 0900 rather than 1000 as was indicated in the Notice of Race. Continue reading →

Volunteering From Afar

One of Swiftsure’s hardest working volunteers is also one of our longest.  Alec Matthews 34th birthday is March 26, 2013 (woop, woop) and on that day, Alec will have worked with Swiftsure for almost HALF his life.  He joined Swiftsure in 1998, helping advance Swiftsure’s technology environment by leaps and bounds each year.
